Devon Avenue Bridge over I-290 Reconstruction
Illinois State Toll Highway Authority
Due to the proposed Elgin-O’Hare Expressway and I-290 Interchange, the Devon Avenue Bridge was reconstructed to allow for proposed ramp lanes along I-290.
The project required the construction of the Devon Avenue Bridge in two stages. Stage 1 put the traffic on the north side of the existing bridge to allow for construction and widening to the south. The abutments were pulled back to accommodate proposed lanes along I-290. 2IM was responsible for maintaining Field Books, preparing pay estimates, processing Change Orders by the Contractor and Request for Information for the designers. Additionally, 2IM prepared Inspector’s Daily Reports and Field Measurements documentation.
2IM was responsible for inspecting the installation of the steel beams during a night-time closure along I-290. Coordination with Illinois State Police, IDOT Maintenance, and Tollway Maintenance, was critical to the success of the 15-minute closures.
