Landscape Maintenance
Illinois Department of Transportation
Landscape maintenance services throughout District 1, such as herbicide, dead tree removal (DTR), mowing, GIS mapping, and wetland area management (WAM), were requested of 2IM Group.

Through the oversight of the IDOT landscape maintenance mowing and herbicide contracts, 2IM Group ensures the reduction of invasive species, such as Teasel and Phragmites, along major highways and mainlines.

2IM performs GIS mapping for all landscape maintenance contracts, including mowing, weed spraying, dead tree removal, and wetland areas management/natural areas management (WAM/NAP) projects to help visualize and quantify key components of natural area management. These components include location and acreage of invasive and native species, areas in need of weed control, and wetland maintenance areas. 2IM oversees multiple wetland sites across IDOT District 1.

The WAM areas range in size from 40 acres on the Arsenal Road Interchange to small roadside bioswales of 450 square yards. To increase biodiversity and native plant presence in the developing wetland areas, 2IM manages the distribution of wetland grass and sedge mixtures, including Prairie Cord Grass (Spartina petcinata), Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium), and native Bulrushes. In the dryer areas, Lead Plant (Amorpha canescens), Compass Plant (Silphium laciniatum), Prairie Docks (Silphium terebinthinaceum), and Black-Eyed Susans (Rudbeckia hirta) are planted.
